Peace Lutheran has a deep heritage of music ministry. Opportunities abound for both direct and indirect involvement with music programs.
To quote the organist and composer Charles-Marie Widor: “to play the organ properly, one should have a vision of Eternity.” Marty Baumgartner who joined the staff at Peace Lutheran Church as organist in 2000 reflects such a vision at Peace. He is a long time member of the Red River Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists where he has served as board member and treasurer. Marty is employed at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo as a funeral director. He and his wife, Sheila, live in Fargo where they are raising their sons, Ethan, Avery, and Christian. Marty studied organ at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1994.
Most notable too is the Festival Choir directed by Katie Damico. This adult choir sings on a regular basis throughout the year including a Christmas and Easter Cantata.
Another extraordinary group is the Celebration Singers directed by Daniel Damico. This contemporary group can be heard every second and fourth Sunday of the month. In addition to vocals, piano, bass, guitar and drums, this collection of musicians welcomes special instrumentalists and soloists, so please feel free to contact the church if you would like to join.
Our traditional worship service is called "Festival Worship." Festival Worship is on the first and third Sunday of every month at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. This is a liturgical service with communion. If there is a fifth Sunday, this is usually traditional, too, but without communion. Presently, we use the Lutheran Book of Worship Settings I and II. The organ was purchased by Doug and Sally Larsen during the renovation of the sanctuary in 2000.
Other music ministries include Doves of Peace, a women's quartet, and a NEW Heart of Worship Childrens Choir, a program to involve children in celebrating God’s word.
Keep your eye on the calendar for special music events. If you are not the performing type, you can be involved with the technical crew or serve on the worship committee and help steer the direction of the music ministry.
